A Precious Gift--Never Forget Janessa & Hope Abigail

The mention of my daughter's name may bring tears to my eyes, but it never fails to bring music to my ears. If you really want to show me that you care, let me hear the beautiful music of her name. It soothes my broken heart and sings to my soul.

"If you know someone who has lost a child, and you're afraid to mention them because you think you might make them sad by reminding them that they died--you're not reminding them. They didn't forget they died.

What you're reminding them of is that you remembered that they lived, and that is a great gift."

Janessa & Hopes Prayer Flags

Janessa & Hopes Prayer flags are on their way to Australia for Carly Marie's Oct. 15th Beach Prayer Flag Project.  I have been staying up until midnight the past couple of nights creating and sewing their flags.  It has been exhausting, stressful, and so rewarding.  I finished them yesterday afternoon and I am so happy about how they turned out!  It brought me great joy to be able to create something that represented my 2 angel babies.

This was part of the note I sent with the flags to explain what the symbols stood for:

These flags were made in remembrance of my angel babies Janessa Shauna Cox and Hope Abigail Cox.  Janessa was stillborn on 3/09/2010--I carried her for 36 weeks.  Hope Abigail was my rainbow baby that I loss on May 7, 2011--I carried her for 10 weeks.
Symbolism on Janessa's Prayer Flag:  Butterflies, because Janessa was my precious butterfly that flew away too soon.  The feet butterfly is Janessa's footprints.  There are 3 balloons and 6 pinwheel  stamps to stand for 36, the number of weeks I carried her and because releasing balloons and creating pinwheel pictures has brought me peace since her death.  The angel stands for Precious Angel which is what we had put on her grave marker.  On the back (I'm not sure the little stars and heart jewels will survive the journey)  there is a J for Janessa which is what I would do when it snowed is go out and make a giant snow heart and then put a J in it so it was a personal message of  love to Janessa from me and the stars represent the lanterns from the movie Tangled and that every year on Janessa's birthday I will light candles in memory of her.

Symbolism on Hope Abigail's Prayer Flag:  Rainbows--because she was suppose to be my rainbow baby, hearts--because she allowed me to have courage to have another baby and to love another baby despite the fear and because she broke my heart again, ladybugs--my symbol for Hope because on a dark winter day when I was feeling down I found a ladybug inside my house and it brought me joy and hope, the ladybugs also have 7 dots for Hope's Angel Date, also that she is my 7th daughter and there are 10 ladybugs to symbolize the 10 weeks I carried her and also that there are 10 people in our family.  The hearts in a circle symbolize eternity and that I believe I will see my angel babies again and we will be together for eternity.

Hugs,

  1. Shauna -- Both of your prayer flags are so beautiful! I love all the symbolism you have woven through them. BTW, I woke up this morning to an email from Carly confirming she had received Gabriel's flag and that she is going to be posting photos in her FB gallery. I'm so excited to see all of our flags!

Be Still and Know that I am God

Sometimes God
Calms the Storm . . .
Sometimes He let's the Storm rage
and Calms His Child.

At times there appears to be no light at the tunnel's end-no dawn to break the night's darkness. . .We feel abandoned, heartbroken, alone. If you find yourself in such a situation, I plead with you to turn to our Heavenly Father in faith. He will lift you and guide you. He will not always take your afflictions from you, but He will comfort and lead you with love through whatever storm you face.
